Never give up! though grape shot may rattle
Or the full thunder cloud over you burst,
Stand like a rock, and the storm or the battle
Little shall harm you though doing their worst:
Never give up! if adversity presses
Providence wisely hath mingled the cup,
And the best council in all your distresses,
Is the stout watchword of Never give up!

--- --- ---

Be kind to each other
   The night's coming on
When friend & when brother
   Perchance may be gone!
Then mid'st our dejection
   How sweet to have earned
The blest recollection
   Of kindness returned

--- ---

When day hath departed
   And memory keeps
Her watch broken hearted
   Where all she loves sleeps
Let fortune assail not
   Nor envy disprove -
