Sue's name has been carefully erased from the bottom of page one and the top of page two; references to her, however, have been left on page four.
The small drawing on page four is a decoration of the watermark; the paper company was named "Congress" and their watermark was an illustration of the Capitol building in Washington. Emily's father had just been elected a Massachusetts Congressman. The caption reads, "Member from 10th!"
